Actuarial Journey Update #3

I didn’t pass any new exams or courses during the last month, but I started learning new material for upcoming ones. I also worked on a new actuarial project, which I will write about in the future. For now, I can only say it will be announced sometime in February.

Here are my status, thoughts, and next goals!

Status

Polish exams passed: 1 of 9

SOA/CAS exams passed: 2 of 9

CAS Online Courses: 1 of 3

CAS Course on Professionalism: 0 of 1

VEEs: 0 of 2

Passion: sincerely, a little bit lost lately due to other projects and the overwhelming amount of material for the MAS-I exam

Exam-life balance: currently present; however, to catch up with the material, it will probably be disrupted…

Thoughts

I did not pass any new exams last month. After completing the SOA preliminary exams, I will take CAS exams toward the ACAS designation. The first exam I will take is MAS-I, which stands for Modern Actuarial Statistics. The next exam session is scheduled for the end of April.

I have started studying for this exam, and I must say that the material covered is substantially broader than in Exams P and FM. Many topics, such as linear regression, GLMs, and statistical testing, were covered during my college studies. However, there are still many topics, such as Reliability Theory and Markov Chains, that I did not study before and have only heard about.

I try to study each day, but it is easier said than done. I am planning to catch up on the material in February and aim to finish the learning process as quickly as possible. This will allow me to focus on solving exam problems and spend as much time as possible reviewing before the exam.

In addition, I have started preparing for the CAS Risk Management Online Course, the exam for which I can take at any time before March 15, 2025.

Next Goals

Based on what I wrote before, my next goals are to catch up on the material for the MAS-I exam and complete the CAS Risk Management Online Course by March 15. After that, I will consistently review the material for the MAS-I exam and aim to take it in April, well-prepared and confident.
